A hotel built around one honest idea
Novaxpulse exists because a small building in Bilbao's Ensanche had views worth designing around — and a team willing to do the work properly.
Where the hotel comes from
Novaxpulse opened in April 2018 in a building that had previously served as a commercial office block. The conversion took fourteen months and was led by a Bilbao-based architecture studio whose brief was precise: preserve the early-twentieth-century ironwork on the facade, open up the floor plates to admit more light, and orient every habitable room toward a named external view. The result is a hotel of eighteen keys — fourteen rooms and four suites — that feels nothing like a converted office. The terracotta-cream palette was chosen during the renovation because it performs differently at different hours: chalky and pale in the morning, warm ochre by late afternoon, almost amber under evening lamplight. The ceramics in each room are commissioned from a single maker in Vitoria-Gasteiz who has produced three distinct series for the hotel across five years. The oak flooring comes from a cooperative in Álava, one hundred and twenty kilometres south of Bilbao, and was hand-selected on-site by the project architect. None of these decisions were made for effect — they were made because they last.
How the team works — and what we do not do
The hotel is run by a permanent team of nine. Front desk is staffed twenty-four hours; housekeeping works in the mornings only, with a late-service option available on request. The restaurant team of three is led by the chef who opened Txoko in 2019. We deliberately remain small: eighteen keys is a considered limit, not a constraint we plan to expand beyond. It means every member of staff knows the building well enough to answer a detailed question about any room, and it means we notice when a guest has a preference worth remembering. What we do not offer: a spa, a pool, a gym, a concierge service that arranges third-party tours at commission, or a loyalty points programme. We do not operate an in-house car park — we are glad to give directions to the nearest covered parking, two minutes on foot. We are not a venue for weddings or large conferences; the rooftop terrace holds thirty people comfortably and we hold that limit firmly. Results for the rooftop and restaurant depend on seasonal produce availability — the menu and event calendar may change at short notice when the market dictates. If any of those limitations are relevant to your booking, it is better to know before you arrive.
